FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. ā€“ A 6-year-old underwent two surgeries Sunday after police say he was struck by a dirt bike Friday evening.

D'Qwell Boston, 6, sustained a fractured skull and a broken leg during the accident.

Diane Lewis, Boston's mother, told Local 10's Ben Kennedy that just after 6:30 p.m. Friday, she ran outside to find her son lying on the ground near Northwest 16th Street.

Her family was at Broward General Hospital hoping that Boston would get better, and now doctors believe he will pull through.

Boston's family says he is heavily sedated, but they're incredibly happy about his recovery after the grim prognosis Saturday night.

The driver of the dirt bike sustained non life-threatening injuries and might face charges pending the results of the investigation.
