Boyfriend arrested in death of Oakland Park teen

Bobby Scott Jr. faces first-degree murder charge in death of Amaya Cruz

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. – The boyfriend of an Oakland Park teenager who was found dead outside her home has been arrested in connection with her death.

Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion said Friday morning that Bobby Scott Jr., 26, was arrested Thursday on a charge of first-degree murder in the death of Amaya Cruz.

Cruz, 17, was found dead just feet from her front door Wednesday morning.

BSO homicide detectives believe Scott confronted Cruz outside her home, killed her and then pretended as though he found her injured.

A witness told detectives Cruz had been arguing with Scott via text messages. Cruz was supposed to notify a friend that she had arrived home safely, but that friend never heard from her.

After killing Cruz, Scott knocked on the front door of her home looking for her, detectives said.

Cruz's brother told him she wasn't home, but moments later Scott banged on the door again, asking family members to call 911 because he found her injured. She was dead when deputies arrived.

An autopsy revealed Cruz died of blunt-force trauma.

Detectives believe jealousy could be a motive for the killing.
