Brothers accused of making up murder plot

Hensley Ferguson, Ainsley Ferguson Jr charged

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Police arrested two brothers who investigators say fabricated a murder plot against a Broward assistant state attorney.

While working as confidential informants for the Broward Sheriff's Office and Fort Lauderdale Police Department, Hensley Ferguson and his brother, Ainsley Ferguson Jr., helped put away several criminals while trying to break Ainsley's life sentence for a recent armed carjacking conviction.

"They're accusing them of planning this thing about the district attorney," said their father, Ainsley Ferguson Sr.

The brothers concocted the plot against Broward Assistant State Attorney Jennifer Hillal (pictured above), who prosecuted Ainsley, according to a search warrant affidavit. A team of 30 federal, state, and local law enforcement agents became involved and she was provided a security detail.

A search warrant affidavit says police later learned the plot was made up. It says one of the brothers played the role of an alleged hit man in a controlled phone call with detectives.

Their father doesn't believe the case against them.

"I think the cops, they get what they want so they don't need them anymore, so now they try to get rid of them because they don't want to give them whatsoever," said Ferguson Sr.

Ainsley Ferguson Jr., who was released from prison to work as an informant, was rebooked. His brother, who was recently released from prison, was booked Thursday on charges of falsifying reports, extortion, and evidence tampering.

Police wouldn't comment on the ongoing investigation.
