Car pulled from Sunrise canal linked to 1978 disappearance

Dana Null, 15, Harry Atchison reported missing 36 years ago

SUNRISE, Fla. – A car that was pulled from a Sunrise canal Thursday is connected to a missing persons case from 1978, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

Dana Null, 15, and her boyfriend, Harry Atchison, were last seen getting into a car and driving away from a home after getting into an argument after a Foreigner concert on Oct. 7, 1978.

"That was basically the last time that they were seen," BSO spokeswoman Veda Coleman-Wright told Local 10 News.

The remains of Atchison's 1969 Dodge Coronet were recovered from the canal off State Road 84.

Deputies said the car was hardly recognizable.

A worker with the South Florida Water Management District found the car while performing routine maintenance.

Null was a freshman at Plantation High School when she disappeared.

"After 36 years, not having answers, certainly this is not the answer that (family members) were hoping to get, but at least they have something," Coleman-Wright said.
