LAUDERHILL, Fla. -

Police took three burglary suspects into custody after shots were fired during a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon.

A home was burglarized about 11 a.m. in Deerfield Beach, and shortly after, deputies issued a "be on the lookout" for the car involved, said Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Dani Moschella.

A Lauderhill police officer spotted the car near Oakland Park Boulevard and Rock Island Road, and during a traffic stop, shots were fired by the officer.

The suspects ran out of the car in the 2500 block of S.R. 7. Two jumped into a nearby canal, and a third ran into an apartment complex.

Police later took the three into custody. No deputies or officers were injured.
