1 injured after truck crashes into house in Miramar

Elderly driver struck mango tree before crashing into home

MIRAMAR, Fla. ā€“ Authorities are investigating after a pickup truck crashed into a house Thursday afternoon.

The incident happened about 1:30 p.m. at a home at 6485 Miramar Parkway.

Neighbors said an elderly man was heading westbound on Miramar Parkway when he hit a mango tree while avoiding a dump truck, overturned and then crashed into the home.

Neighbors said the stretch of road is dangerous and people speed there all the time.

Rescuers used the Jaws of Life to extricate the driver, who was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries.

The impact of the crash was so strong that nearly every mango was knocked out of the tree, and the truck's battery was ejected from the engine compartment.

"We have been living here for 15 years, and it's really ridiculous the amount of accidents we've seen," homeowner Sazkya Mejia said.

No one was inside the home at the time, and Mejia told Local 10 News that the house didn't sustain any serious structural damage.
