Car drives into store in Fort Lauderdale

Driver says he accidentally hit gas instead of brake

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A car drove into a business early Monday afternoon in Fort Lauderdale.

The crash was reported shortly after 1 p.m. at the Batteries + Bulbs store at 1551 E. Commercial Blvd.

Sky 10 was above the scene as police tape surrounded the car that was partially inside the store.

An employee at the store said he was talking to a customer on the phone when he heard what sounded like a grenade.

The driver told Local 10 News that he accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake.

"I came to get a battery for my clicker for my car and pulled in. I was only doing five or eight mph and my foot slipped off the break and hit the gas pedal, and I couldn't stop it in time," Ralph Soriero said.

Despite the significant damage to the store, the business remained open for the day.

No injuries were reported.
