Car hits 3 waiting at bus stop

2 taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries; 1 dies there

HIALEAH, Fla. – Three men waiting at a bus stop in Hialeah were hit by a car Thursday morning.

The crash happened at W. 16th Avenue and 42nd Street about 10:10 a.m.

Police say a Toyota Camry heading east on 42nd Street was hit by a Kia Sorrento, sending the car into the bus bench.

"This clearly emphasizes the need for focusing on your driving," said Hialeah police detective Carl Zogby. "Distractions, we don't know what caused this one today, but look at what could happen with carelessness."

Two of the men sitting at the bus bench, Fidencio Gonzalez, 69, and Alberto Rodriguez, 35, were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where Gonzalez died. Rodriguez is listed in stable condition.

Jose Marrero, 45, who was also sitting at the bus bench, suffered minor injuries.

Yusniel Gonzalez, 21, the driver of the Camry, wasn't injured. Natalie Reyes, 29, the driver of the Sorrento, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Palmetto Hospital.
