Car slams into beauty supply store in Oakland Park

Driver says she accidentally hit gas instead of brake

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. ā€“ A woman crashed her car into a beauty supply store Wednesday in Oakland Park, authorities said.

The crash was reported at the Beauty Exchange Beauty Supply store at 4384 NW 31st Ave.

"Suddenly, I saw the explosion. Something like a bomb. A bomb attack. A big explosion," store manager Nasir Ahmet said.

Sky 10 was above the scene at 12:15 p.m. as a white Volkswagen Passat was entirely inside the store.

Photos taken inside the store show damaged shelves and merchandise scattered across the floor.

A number of surveillance cameras captured the car careening through the plate glass entryway, knocking down shelves and sending customers and clerks running for their lives.

"It was so scary. I still feel my heartbeat," Ahmet said.

"Our first instinct was to run toward the back, and we came out and we saw a car in the middle of aisle 6," store clerk Joanne Ductel said. "It was a slow Wednesday, so thank God no one was in the front. We got lucky."

The driver, Rosland Rena, and her son, who was riding in the front passenger seat, were shaken but uninjured. No one was injured inside the store.

After the crash, crews worked to clean up the mess of broken glass and beauty supplies scattered about the store. Meanwhile, the driver admits that she made a mistake.

"I was trying to park, but I hit the gas by mistake," Rena said. "When I tried to stop, it kept going inside. Going inside."

Rena was cited for reckless driving.
