Children of Haitian descent deported from Bahamas

Video shows children as young as 10 handcuffed before being sent back to Haiti

BAHAMAS – Pictures and videos surfacing of children of Haitian descent being ordered out of the Bahamas has angered and disturbed many people in South Florida.

"This is an issue that touches my soul deeply and sincerely bothers me," said U.S. Rep. Daphne Campbell. "In being informed of this situation, I was shown images of children being separated from families and being sent cuffed to destinations they have never seen. This is a cruel and unusual punishment to an innocent child whose only knowledge is that of Bahamian soil."

This is all part of a new policy aimed at curbing illegal immigration in the Bahamas. Haitian activists are calling it cruel and inhumane, and are hoping to work together to find a resolution.

"To me this is very unfair and it's an injustice," said Campbell. "It's inhumane for anyone to handcuff children under the age of 10."

Campbell said this has to stop right away, and until something is done, she believes all industries should boycott the Bahamas.

"And until they stop it, they are not going to get no one visiting them anymore until they resolve this," said Campbell.
