Sheriff says Shan Huang passed vehicles in no-passing zone, drove recklessly

KEY WEST, Fla. ā€“ A Chinese man was arrested Wednesday on a reckless driving charge after running the sheriff of the Florida Keys off the road, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said.

Shan Huang, 34, of Beijing, was driving a Jeep north in the southbound lane of a highway on Big Pine Key, passing vehicles in a no-passing zone, sheriff's spokeswoman Becky Herrin said.

Sheriff Rick Ramsay, who was driving his department-issued vehicle, had to swerve off the road to avoid colliding with Huang's Jeep, Herrin said.

Ramsay turned on his lights and siren and pulled over Huang, who said he was late to check out of his Marathon hotel and was in a hurry, Herrin said.

Huang was then arrested and booked into jail.
