Church bells drive residents batty

Bells chime electronically

Electronic church bells are beginning to drive residents of a Vermont town batty.

According to a Portland Press Herald story, Christ the King church has been broadcasting the sound of bells and hymns to the neighborhood.

Residents are complaining that the sound is too loud and is tuned strangely. The church emits the noise thrice a day and after funerals and weddings.

One resident told the Herald that the bells sound like a "first generation ringtone that you pay 99 cents (for)."

The Herald reports that the Portland is evaluating whether the bells violate the city's noise ordinance.
