Coast Guard offloads $27 million of seized cocaine

2,200 pounds of cocaine found on fishing vessel in Caribbean

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Crewmembers from the Coast Guard Cutter Bernard C. Webber offloaded 2,200 pounds of cocaine Friday at the base on Miami Beach.

The cocaine, seized during Operation Martillo, is worth an estimated value of $27 million.

On April 18, the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Gallatin located a 68-foot fishing vessel in the western Caribbean. The crew of the Gallatin boarded the vessel and detained three suspected smugglers. 

The three suspects and fishing vessel are scheduled to be transferred to FBI agents in Miami.

The cocaine was scheduled to be transferred to U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency agents.
