Coast Guard suspends search for missing Keys diver

MIAMI – The search has been suspended for a 32-year-old man who disappeared on a diving trip over the weekend.

Matt Milton and his brother-in-law, 35-year-old Jeffrey Stewart, were diving just a mile off Crocker Reef when their boat drifted away from them. The two were swimming after the boat when they became separated.

Coast Guard divers found Stewart clinging to a mooring ball approximately 3 miles off the coast of Islamorada, but were unable to locate Milton.

The search for Milton was suspended around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, following the four-day search.

"Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Mr. Milton," said Lt. Christopher Rowe, command duty officer for the Coast Guard 7th District Command Center in Miami. "Search and rescue crews worked tirelessly in their search for Mr. Milton. Despite our best efforts we have been unable to locate him, and have made the difficult decision to suspended the search pending any further developments."
