Convicted drunk driver begins prison sentence

Rolando Aliaga convicted of killing 2 pedestrians

MIAMI – A Hialeah man convicted of killing two people while driving under the influence of alcohol in 2011 turned himself in to begin serving a 15-year prison sentence.

Rolando Aliaga appeared in court Monday morning.

Aliaga was driving a pickup truck when he hit Tyron Richmond and Charles Williams at 79th Street and Northwest 27th Avenue in Feb. 2011, then drove away, said Miami-Dade police.

The Miami Herald reported Aliaga's blood alcohol level was four times the legal limit.

Police credited a Good Samaritan who saw the crash and followed Aliaga with helping them make an arrest.

Aliaga was also sentenced to five years probation.
