2 armed thieves carjack man outside Wells Fargo Bank in Hollywood

Culprits captured on camera abandoning vehicle

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. ā€“ Two armed thieves carjacked a man earlier this month outside a Wells Fargo Bank in Hollywood, police said.

The incident was reported about 12:20 p.m. Feb. 5 outside the bank at 4600 Sheridan St.

Hollywood police said the 42-year-old victim was approached by the culprits after he withdrew money from an ATM.

He was walking back to his vehicle when the thieves, one of whom was armed with a knife, approached him.

Police said the men demanded money, and the victim fought them off and ran away.

"They tried to stab me. That's the reason you see I'm kicking him over here," the victim, who did not want to be identified, said. "I ran to the CVS and called the police. That's it."

Police said one of the robbers got away in the victim's 2002 Ford Explorer.

Police recovered the SUV Feb. 8 at 2310 Hayes St.

Police said surveillance video shows the thieves parking the SUV in the area and rummaging through the vehicle.

The men abandoned the vehicle and got into a gray or silver four-door sedan that had followed them into the area.

The victim told detectives that the same sedan was in the bank parking lot when his vehicle was stolen.

The victim told Local 10 News reporter Michael Seiden that he is a father of three and is battling lung cancer.

"I really hope they're going to find them, just to educate them," he said.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Hollywood police at 954-967-4411 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.

"If you were around the Wells Fargo Bank at that time on Sunday, Feb. 5, a little after midnight -- if you heard anything, saw anything -- please give Hollywood police a call and help us find these guys," Hollywood police spokeswoman Miranda Grossman said.
