2 arrested after 36 grams of cocaine found in stolen car in Islamorada, deputies say

Third person in vehicle not arrested

ISLAMORADA, Fla. – Two people were arrested Friday night after 36 grams of cocaine were found on a woman who was driving a stolen vehicle, authorities said.

Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said deputies stopped a 2017 Nissan Versa just before 10 p.m. traveling south at the 90 mile marker of the Overseas Highway after running the license tag and finding that it was reported stolen from Key West.

Deputies ordered the driver and front seat passenger out of the car, and then found a third person hiding on the floorboards in the back seat, Herrin said.

Authorities said the driver, identified as Megan Fedock, 22, of Key West did not have a driver's license.

Herrin said deputies searched the vehicle and found a small amount of marijuana inside.

Deputies then asked Fedock if she had any contraband on her and she pulled out a green bag from her pants, Herrin said.

Authorities said there were multiple small bags inside the green bag, some that were filled with cocaine and some with marijuana inside.

Herrin said Fedock told deputies that the man hiding in the back seat, Laquenton Cade, 40, of Florida City, had approached her and her boyfriend earlier in the day on Stock Island and asked them if they wanted to go to Miami for the day.

She said they agreed to go and Cade asked her to drive on the way back because he was tired, Herrin said.

Authorities said Fedock said Cade told her to hide the bag of drugs in her pants when they were being pulled over.

Deputies said Cade denied knowing anything about the stolen vehicle or the drugs, but two cigars stuffed with marijuana were found in the back seat with Cade.

Cade was arrested on a charge of possession of marijuana.

Herrin said Cade layed on the ground when he was being arrested and refused orders to get into a patrol car.

Herrin said deputies were eventually able to get Cade inside a patrol car so he could be taken to jail.

Fedock was arrested on charges of grand theft auto, trafficking in cocaine, possession of marijuana and driving without a license.

The third person in the vehicle, Cory Baker, 45, of Miami, was not arrested and was released at the scene.
