2 teens identified in North Miami police-involved shooting

1 teen shot, 1 officer injured in crash

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – North Miami police have identified two teenagers who were arrested last week after an officer-involved shooting.

According to a police report, Johvon Wright, 16, was behind the wheel of a stolen Nissan Altima on Friday when an officer saw him running stop signs and speeding in a residential area near Northeast 143rd Street and Second Avenue.

Police said Wright pulled into the parking lot of Linda Lentin K-8 Charter School, and the officer activated his cruiser's lights.

But instead of getting out of the car, Wright drove toward the officer, rammed into the front passenger side of the police car and then rammed the car again on the front passenger side, the report said.

Police said a second officer fired at Wright, striking him in the left bicep.

Wright was taken to Aventura Hospital before he was arrested.

His passenger, Amos Leclerc, 17, was questioned at the North Miami Police Department and was also arrested.

Police said the Altima had been reported stolen earlier in the day from Miami-Dade County.

One of the officers was injured in the crash, but is doing fine, authorities said.

The identities of the officers involved in the shooting have not been released.
