3 teens shot in Miami Gardens neighborhood

Victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police say

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. ā€“ Three teenagers were shot Thursday afternoon in a Miami Gardens neighborhood, authorities said.

The shooting was reported in the area of Northwest 191st Street and 46th Avenue.

"I heard the shots from a distance and I just seen police flying down the street, flying down the street, and I saw the ambulance," witness Perry Plummer said. "I said, 'Oh my God, something really bad happened.'"

Miami Gardens police spokeswoman Petula Burks said three boys were shot and taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue spokesman Felipe Lay said a 16-year-old boy was shot in the left leg and a 17-year-old was shot in the left arm and both feet. Both were airlifted to Aventura Hospital.

Lay said an 18-year-old was shot in the right wrist and hand and was taken by ambulance to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center.

Claudia Muller raced over from work after learning that her son was at the same home where the shooting happened in front of, visiting a friend.

"Well, my son called me and he said they got shot at, so I came here, and they're all kids, so I hope it's not him," Muller said. "The police won't let me through."

Muller later learned that her son was not one of the victims.

Lay said the teens told paramedics that they had no idea who shot them, and never saw anyone coming toward them.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
