4 wounded in southwest Miami-Dade shooting

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Police are investigating after four people were shot Wednesday morning in southwest Miami-Dade County.

Four men, ages 34 to 64, were wounded in the shooting just after 8 a.m. near Southwest 139th Avenue and Southwest 266th Street, Miami-Dade police Detective Robin Pinkard said.

She said the shooter or shooters fled the scene.

"A car approached the stop sign and didn't even stop, and just four shots rang out -- pop, pop, pop, pop," LaToya Jackson, who lives in the area, said. "I just turned around and hurled it in the house. It was like I was in the Olympics last night, but hey, my life is more important. It's just crazy. It just needs to stop."

Sky 10 was above the shooting scene as at least one of the victims was airlifted to an area hospital.

Pinkard said the victims, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, were not cooperating with police.

Police said one man was shot in an upper extremity, one in a lower extremity, another in the buttocks and the fourth victim was grazed by a bullet.

A large police perimeter was established near the shooting scene. Soon after, police spotted a dark-colored vehicle that matched the description of the getaway car, authorities said.

Miami-Dade police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta said the driver fled from police and the people inside the vehicle bailed out of it in the area of Southwest 264th Street and 122nd Avenue.

He said a woman who stayed in the car was apprehended, as well as a man who was captured nearby by officers.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Byron Curry, 26, was arrested later in the afternoon in the Artesa community in the area of Southwest 248th Street and 117th Avenue.

Police said a construction worker who rides a bicycle to work someone trying to steal his bike.

Police said the description matched that of the driver who fled from police and a perimeter was established in the area.

Authorities said Curry was found hiding in a model home and was taken into custody.

He was arrested on charges of burglary, fleeing and eluding, grand theft, carrying a conceal firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The Tony McGhee, 26, was apprehended in the bailout and has been arrested on charges of possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, possession of cocaine and resisting an officer without violence. 

A woman was detained but has not been charged in the drive-by shooting at this time.
