MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. ā After a mom's confrontation with her teenage son about his alleged criminal behavior, police were called to the home to check on reports of a domestic disturbance Saturday. Then the boy stole a marked police car.Ā
The mom said she was enraged, because she suspected that he had been involved in a robbery overnight. As officers talked to her at the home onĀ NorthwestĀ 17thĀ Place, they spotted the 16-year-old boy across the street.

Miami-Dade police officers ran after the teenage boy, but he was faster. Ā
"He was able to double back and jump into one of the marked police cars and flee the area," Miami-Dade police Detective Dan Ferrin said.Ā
Officers lost sight of the car. The boy was driving erratically and hit three cars, so there were numerous 911 calls,Ā Ferrin said.Ā
The boy lost control of the car and crashed outside of a Church's Chicken, 2601 NW 175 St., in Miami Gardens. He got out of the car and started running.Ā
It just so happened that Miami Beach Police motorcycle units were working an off-duty detail at a funeral in the area and saw the crash. They were able to catch the boy who was injured in the process. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue treated his injuries.Ā
"The subject is facing multiple charges and is being questioned by detectives from our robbery bureau in regards to his involvement, if any, into any robbery," Ferrin said.Ā
