According to an arrest report, Kirkland Jones, 54, and the victim, Lorenzo Bain, were involved in an argument that turned physical.

Police said Jones pulled a handgun from his waistband and shot Bain in the back of the head and near the left side of his spine.

Another barber told detectives that Jones got on top of Bain and pistol-whipped him at least four times. The barber tackled Jones, putting him in a head lock, while another co-worker grabbed the gun from Jones, the report said.

The co-worker who tackled Jones told police that Jones texted him shortly after the incident to tell him that he "was going to get it."

Jones went to the parking lot, where he saw a witness calling 911, authorities said.

The witness told officers that Jones reached into his waistband and chased him, saying, "I told you that I ain't nothing to be (expletive) with."

According to the witness, the incident started after the victim asked aloud, "Who is gonna pay my rent this month?" and Jones answered, "Ain't nobody paying your (expletive) rent."

Police said Jones tried to get back inside the barbershop, but someone had locked the door.

The co-worker who took the gun from Jones went outside and told police that Jones told him, "Give me back my gun. It is dirty."

The co-worker told police that he thought Jones would come back to shoot him if he didn't comply.

The victim was taken to Aventura Hospital and Medical Center. His condition has not been released.

Jones was arrested Monday on charges of attempted murder, illegal use of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and aggravated assault with a firearm.
