LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA, Fla. – Building owner Anthony Lamascolo surveyed the damage Christmas morning after an explosive device was blown up outside Giannino's restaurant in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea.
The FBI and Broward Sheriff's Office deputies are investigating the bomb that went off just before midnight on Christmas Eve in front of Giannino Restaurant & Café at 218 Commercial Blvd.
The restaurant's employees had left only 15 minutes before the bomb went off.
"I think it was a very deliberate and very dangerous and purposeful timing," said Lomascolo, who owns the building that houses the restaurant, said.
Deputies said remnants of an "explosive device" was found in front of the restaurant.
Lights were blown out in front of the restaurant and an entrance door was damaged.
Lamascolo estimates the damage will cost more than $25,000 to repair.
No one was hurt in the incident.
The restaurant's owner, Giannino Di Costanzo, who moved from Naples, Italy, two years ago, said he's scared.
"I'm scared for my family,” he said. “I don't know if tomorrow I put the restaurant on the market or continue the business, I don't know."
Lamascolo said authorities told him they have a person of interest.
