Burglar targets Miami-Dade day care, strikes for sixth time

Surveillance video shows most recent burglary

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – The owner of a South Florida day care is fed up with the recent burglaries to her business.

"It's getting really ridiculous," Mayra Quevedo told Local 10 News.

Quevedo owns It's a Small World Learning Center II on Northwest 94th Street in northwest Miami-Dade County.

"For the last couple years, we keep getting broken into," Quevedo said. "The police never seem to catch the person."

The most recent burglary took place about 3:45 a.m. Friday.

Surveillance video shows a large object flying through the window. A man can be seen crawling through the window about 10 minutes later.

"The alarm bothers him," Quevedo said. "He starts to go out the window again, and then he says, 'No, no, no. Let me go back.'"

Surveillance video shows the man grab what looks like a book bag and then run out of the store, leaving the damage behind.

"Apparently, whatever he threw was very heavy and dense that it made a nick in the floor and kept sliding," Quevedo said.

Quevedo said her day care has been burglarized about six times in the last four months. She believes the same man is responsible.

"It seems the same MO," Quevedo said. "They come in through the same window. They throw something in."

Nothing was stolen Friday, but Quevado said the crook has stolen the children's milk, bread, VCRs and televisions in the past.

"Some items are $50, $60," she said. "Others have been hundreds of dollars."
