Jose Pulido intended to flee to Cuba with money, investigators say

Investigators say Jose Pulido plotted to rob an armored truck using a gun that he purchased from an undercover detective and flee to Cuba with the money.

KEY WEST, Fla. ā€“ An unemployed felon was arrested Monday in the Florida Keys after he bought a gun from an undercover sheriff's detective that he planned to use to rob an armored truck before he left the country, Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said.

Jose Pulido, 57, of Stock Island, paid $300 for the .40-caliber handgun that he bought from the undercover detective at a CVS pharmacy parking lot Monday night, Herrin said.

Pulido told the detective that he planned to use the gun to commit an armed robbery, Herrin said.

Investigators received information that Pulido wanted to use the gun to rob a Wells Fargo truck and flee to Cuba with the money.

Pulido faces several charges, including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, conspiracy to commit a first-degree felony and unlawful use of a two-way device. He also faces several counts of failing to register as a sex offender as required by law.
