Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said Clemente was visiting his sister when Alvarez attacked him. Herrin said Alvarez struck Clemente on the head with a bottle and then slashed his throat with the broken bottle.

Herrin said Alvarez's cousin, Amaury Alvarez, punched Clemente in the face. Clemente later told detectives that he believed the punch deflected the bottle and kept the cut to his neck from being more serious than it was already.

Clemente was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center in Miami. He has since recovered from his injuries.

Amaury Alvarez was arrested in March in Hernando County.

Yordan Alvarez returned to the Florida Keys on Wednesday and was being held in the county jail. His bond was set at $50,000.
