Man appears in court after escaping from Miami-Dade County courthouse

Yakevis Jones, 21, ordered held without bond

MIAMI – A South Florida man was in handcuffs Wednesday morning as a Miami-Dade County judge granted him a $7,500 bond on charges of escaping from the courthouse.

But Yakevis Jones, 21, isn't getting out of jail any time soon because he is still being held without bond for charges related to his initial arrest.

Corrections officers and police ran through the courthouse Tuesday after the convicted felon bolted from a courtroom.

Jones had been on probation for armed robbery and dealing in stolen property, but was back in court Tuesday on accusations that he violated the terms of his probation.

Once the judge reviewed the case and ordered that Jones be sent back to jail, he apparently decided that it wasn't where he wanted to be.

Jones was captured quickly by officers after he made a run for it. He got about a block from the courthouse before he was taken into custody near the state attorney's office.

A similar incident was reported in July at the Broward County courthouse, when murder suspect Dayonte Resiles broke free from his shackles and escaped. He was caught a few days later at a motel in West Palm Beach.
