HIALEAH, Fla. – A man was arrested Friday in connection with an armed carjacking reported early in the morning in Hialeah.

Hialeah police spokesman Sgt. Carl Zogby said the victim was standing next to his car at 1:30 a.m. in the area of West 14th Court and 69th Street when he was approached by Elgin Dion Hill, 44, and two other people.

Zogby said the 54-year-old victim was pistol-whipped, and Hill drive away in the victim's 2016 Ford F-250 pickup truck while the other people left in a red vehicle.

Hialeah detectives spotted the stolen truck and followed it to Northwest 42nd Avenue and 171st Street in Miami Gardens.

Zogby said Hill drove the truck into a canal, but police took him into custody before he could escape.

According to an arrest report, Hill was in possession of a loaded pistol when he was arrested.

The victim identified Hill as the person who carjacked him.

Hill faces an armed robbery/carjacking charge.
