Man killed, 2 injured in Fort Lauderdale shooting

Police search for shooter

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A man was killed Thursday night in a triple shooting in Fort Lauderdale, police said.

Fort Lauderdale police said a gunman opened fire on a car while it was traveling through the intersection of Northwest 16th Street and Northwest 15th Terrace.

"He (the driver) was slumped over," a witness said. "He had two holes in his hand, and he was bleeding from his head, and had four around his midsection."

The driver died at the scene, and his two female passengers were hurt, police said. The passengers were taken to an area hospital.

"All I know is they were shooting into the car," a witness said. "I don't know what for."

The witness, who didn't want to be named, said the gunshots sounded like firecrackers.

"I was standing right here and when I heard the third shot I ran to the corner," he said. "And that's when I seen those dudes -- well, one of those dudes -- shooting into the car right there."

Another witness told Local 10 News that he has seen the gunman in the neighborhood before and believes the shooting might have been planned.

"(He) must have been, probably waiting for them," he said.

Witnesses said the gunman ran off with four other young men after the vehicle crashed.

Police are asking for any other witnesses to come forward.

"It's going to take the community to help detectives solve this case," Detective Tracy Figone said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
