Man found shot to death in car in Miami

Motive for shooting under investigation

MIAMI – A man was found shot to death inside a car early Tuesday in Miami near Booker T. Washington Senior High School.

Miami police were called to a shooting shortly before 4 a.m. near Northwest Seventh Avenue and Northwest 14th Street.

Officers arrived and found the man shot dead in the car.

Lt. Freddie Cruz said the victim, later identified as Darryl Smith, 31, was sitting in the driver's seat when he was shot.

A motive for the shooting was not immediately known.

"Anything is possible at this moment," Cruz said. "We're not sure what the motive was -- it could be a robbery, it could be drug-related, but again, we do know that a poor victim lost his life today."

Detectives are now working to find the shooter.

"It's a puzzle that we're putting together," Cruz said. "We're asking the community to please, if someone heard something or saw something, please come forward with any and all information so we can apprehend the person or persons responsible for this brutal crime."

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
