Man snatches woman's purse on bus in Miami Beach in front of woman's daughter

Surveillance video captures bus driver, passenger holding suspect down

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. ā€“ A woman who was visiting Miami Beach this week with her child was robbed on a county bus, authorities said.

Surveillance video shows the bus robbery end in a takedown.

"When he stumbled and fell, I grabbed him down and I held him down right here," Rhondo Robinson said.

Robinson, a Miami-Dade transit bus operator, said he knew he had to jump into action when a man grabbed a woman's purse, struggling with her and grabbing her cash.

Police said the robbery was reported Thursday night on Fifth Street and Lenox Avenue.

"He was on the bus. I thought they was family, but he attacked her, and grabbed her, and took her money. So my instinct was to catch him," Robinson said.

Robinson and a passenger held down Ramon Andujar, 58, until police arrived and arrested him.

Local 10 News reporter Derek Shore met up with the victim on Friday, Carla De La Serena, before she headed home to Bolivia.

She said she was with her 7-year-old daughter, Raquel, during the robbery.

De La Serena said she suffered injuries to her hands from Andujarā€™s fingernails as they struggled over her cash.

She thanked those who helped her.

"I don't feel like a hero. I'm just trying to do my job," Robinson said.

Andujar remains in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a charge of strongarm robbery.
