Victim taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center

SWEETWATER, Fla. – One person was stabbed Thursday afternoon at Dolphin Mall, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said.

The stabbing was reported about 3:30 p.m. at the mall at 11401 NW 12th St.

Sweetwater spokeswoman Sandy Antonio said there was a fight involving five people, four men and a woman.

The woman was with one of the men, and the other three men were in a group together.

One of the men pulled out a knife in self-defense when the altercation became physical.

"One male took out a 2-inch pocketknife and stabbed the other in the side," Antonio said.

A man who was stabbed, who is in his 20s, began the altercation and is expected to face charges, Antonio said, and the person who stabbed him is "protected under (the) 'Stand Your Ground' law."

Three other people were detained in this case.

Fire Rescue officials said the person who was stabbed was taken by ground to Kendall Regional Medical Center. Antonio said his injuries did not appear to be serious.

Antonio said detectives are reviewing surveillance video from inside the mall to determine the circumstances surrounding the fight.
