NORTH MIAMI – A man claiming he had food poisoning after eating at an IHOP rushed to stab a server at the restaurant on Friday in North Miami.
About 3:30 p.m., North Miami police responded to the restaurant at 12875 Biscayne Blvd.
Gene Henry Hicks, 35, used a pocket knife to attack the restaurant employee, who suffered wounds that were "non-life-threatening," according to police.
The employee has been identified as Carlos Schlatter.
According to the arrest report, Hicks had been in the restaurant earlier in the day to eat and left without incident. However, he later came back, and "...began to scream at Schlatter and told him that he had poisoned his food," police said.
After stabbing Schlatter with a folding pocket knife with a 4-inch blade, Hicks ran from the restaurant but was soon apprehended, police said.
North Miami police officers arrested Hicks, and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue took Schlater to Aventura Hospital.
