MCSO spokeswoman Becky Herrin said the trucks were stolen between Islamorada and Key Largo.

Herrin said there has been an increase in truck thefts this month, with three trucks stolen and three attempted truck thefts.

"In the cases of the recent attempted theft cases, the suspect(s) forced open the doors by breaking the door locks and attempted to start the trucks using some kind of tool, possibly a screwdriver or something similar," Herrin said.

Authorities warn drivers to park their trucks in a secure area or park another vehicle in front of it, blocking anyone from taking it.

Detectives believe that the stolen trucks are being used to steal boats on trailers in Monroe County and possibly other areas of South Florida.

Herrin said MCSO detectives are working with other law enforcement agencies in nearby counties to investigate the thefts.

Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-346-TIPS.
