Deputies said Miller shot Willie Washington twice on the morning of June 22 at 216 NW First Terrace in Deerfield Beach.

Washington was found lying on the sidewalk with two life-threatening gunshot wounds, deputies said.

According to the report, a deputy was contacted by a member of the violent crimes unit to respond to the shooting. The deputy met with Washington at Broward Health North, where the victim was being treated.

Minutes later, Miller was dropped off at Delray Medical Center in Delray Beach. He gave a false name and stated that he shot himself, the report said. His involvement was unknown at the time.

During questioning, he told Delray Beach police officers his real identity and said that he had been shot during a physical altercation at a nearby park.

A few hours later, it was determined that Miller had a gun and shot Washington two times. As Washington fought back and struggled for the weapon, Miller was shot.

Deputies said that there was probable cause to charge Miller with attempted murder.
