Thieves target unlocked vehicles in Plantation neighborhood

Crooks possibly driving Ford Explorer, Mercury Mountaineer

PLANTATION, Fla. ā€“ Plantation police are searching for at least two thieves who were captured on surveillance video opening unlocked vehicles that were parked outside homes.

The vehicle burglaries were reported about midnight Friday in the 700 blocks of Northwest 75th Avenue and 75th Terrace.

Neighbors told Local 10 News reporter Derek Shore that at least six vehicles were rummaged through and numerous items were stolen, including wallets.

"There was one that was looking out and then there was another one on either side of the vehicle, and I could just see the lights on in the car and they were just rummaging through it, just trying to look for stuff," one of the victims, Kelly Frances, said.

Police said the thieves might have been driving a light-colored Ford Explorer or Mercury Mountaineer.

Authorities said all of the vehicles that were burglarized had been left unlocked. A gun was stolen from one vehicle.

Anyone with information about the thieves' identities is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
