Man arrested after fatal Miami Beach hit-and-run

Homeless woman in her 50s killed in crash

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A 31-year-old man was arrested Sunday after fatally striking a homeless woman in a  hit-and-run crash at the intersection of Collins Avenue and 38th Street, Miami Beach police said.

The woman, who was in her 50s, was hit by a silver four-door Chevrolet sedan and was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where she died, police said.

Police said the vehicle was located a short time after the crash inside a garage at 35th Street and Indian Creek Drive.

Angel Cuesta was arrested on a charge of leaving the scene of a crash.

After being read his rights, Cuesta said that he didn't see the victim on the ground after he drove away,  police said.

Authorities said he also told them that he tried to hide his vehicle in the gated parking garage and contacted a witness about an hour after the crash.

Cuesta was released from jail overnight after he posted $10,000 bail.
