Young man sexually assaults 74-year-old woman during home invasion

Incident reported about 6 a.m. April 27 in southwest Miami-Dade

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Miami-Dade police are searching for a young man who sexually assaulted a 74-year-old woman during a home invasion last week in southwest Miami-Dade County.

The incident was reported about 6 a.m. April 27 in the area of Southwest 152nd Street and 107th Avenue.

According to Miami-Dade police spokeswoman Jennifer Capote, the man knocked on the victim's front door, forced his way inside and pushed the woman to the floor.

Capote said the man attempted to remove the woman's clothes in order to sexually assault her, but she was able to resist and he ran away.

"She was fighting for her life," Miami-Dade police spokesman Daniel Ferrin said. "Normally, we tell a lot of people and the victims to give up your property, give up your belongings. Your life is more important than any of that property or anything else. But in this case, obviously, she had to fight for her life, because it wasn't about property. He obviously had other intentions."

Police believe the man has victimized other women.

He is described as a black man between the age of 18 and 25. He is about 5 feet 8 inches tall and was last seen wearing a white shirt and dark-colored shorts.

Anyone with information about his identity is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
