Criminal steals sunglasses, leaves $1M lottery ticket

Couple unaware they had a winning ticket for three months

SEATTLE ā€“ There's finally proof that crime does not pay.

A Seattle couple is praising their double luck after a thief broke into their car, stealing a pair of sunglasses while leaving behind a winning lottery ticket worth $1 million.

On top of that, the sunglasses were actually sitting on the ticket when the break-in occurred.

The couple bought the winning ticket in February as part of a $500 million jackpot drawing, but didn't realize they had won a second-place prize until May 14 when they checked the numbers online.

"We didn't even think about a second chance prize," the couple shared.

It was then that they realized how close they came to losing it all when remembering that they had kept the ticket in their car, unaware of it's value when the crook struck.

Instead of trying their good luck again on the lottery, the couple says they're now planning trips to Paris and Iceland instead.
