With embargo in place, Cuban pedals in his dream car

HAVANA ā€“ In Havana's San Miguel neighborhood, Danny Gomez epitomizes Cuban ingenuity. Ā Gomez's project is six months in the making.

While for some teenagers in South Florida, getting their own car is a rite of passage. In Cuba, it is a far fetch dream for even most adults. But Gomez is trying to make it happen.Ā

Complete with an old tag and cushioned seats, Ā Gomez is assembling the modern Cuban version of his dream car.

"This is something I have adopted as a hobby," Gomez said in Spanish.

Gomez calls his ride "La Bestia," Spanish for The Beast. It doesn't have an engine. Instead, it runs with pedals -- like a bicycle.Ā

To come up with what he has so far, he received parts from different provinces and he should be done in about a month.Ā
