Soler met with Colombian reporters from the newspaper El Tiempo. During an interview at her home, she said she was happy because the death of Fidel Castro meant there was "one less dictator on this earth and one less in Cuba, although his brother Raul still remains."

Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart released a statement on Thursday night saying he was witnessing increased reports of oppression and brutal political arrests.

"The iconic leader of the Ladies in White who has suffered countless brutalities at the hands of Castro's thugs, was arrested today," Diaz-Balart said. "I condemn her arrest and demand her immediate, unconditional release."
