BSO deputy taken to hospital after Plantation crash

Other driver not hurt

PLANTATION, Fla. – A Broward Sheriff's Office deputy had to be extricated from his patrol car after a crash Thursday in Plantation.

The deputy-involved crash was reported at Broward Boulevard and Flamingo Road.

Plantation firefighters said Deputy Guillermo Valdes was taken to Westside Regional Medical Center. BSO spokeswoman Joy Oglesby said Valdes suffered minor injuries.

The other driver, identified as Farina Sikder, wasn't hurt.

Authorities said Sikder was trying to make a left turn when she struck a curb and crashed into the deputy's car that was stopped at a red light.

When asked why she hit the curb, Sikder said, "I don't know. That's what I'm saying."

Sikder was apologetic and said that she is just happy that the deputy didn't suffer more serious injuries.

"Thank God he is OK (and) we're OK, so that's the main thing," she said.

Traffic was backed up for several hours as both vehicles were towed away from the scene.
