Prospective home buyer shot, killed at Fort Lauderdale house

Witness says gunman shot man while trying to steal gold chain

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – As a real estate agent was showing a newly renovated house for sale to an interested couple Thursday morning, a gunman walked inside and fatally shot the prospective buyer, a Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman said.

The fatal shooting occurred about 10 a.m. at 2729 NW Sixth Court.

BSO spokeswoman Dani Moschella said the motive for the shooting was a robbery.

A witness told Local 10 News that a man and woman were looking at the home when the gunman shot the man while trying to steal his gold chain.

"The car comes behind him and lets the guy out," said Rickey Cooper, who lives in the neighborhood. "The guy stands in the street, like, casually. He walks over and goes up in their yard. A few minutes later I'm (hearing) 'Bam, bam, bam' and the guy runs down the block."

The victim was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Surveillance video shows the shooter talking to someone driving a white Pontiac Grand Am.

Detectives are hoping to speak to the driver of the Pontiac, who may be able to help identify the shooter.

"Anyone who knows where this suspect is or encounters him should consider him armed and dangerous," Moschella said.

Broward County Crime Stoppers will pay a reward of up to $3,000 for an anonymous tip that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call 954-493-TIPS.
