Dolphin stadium deal gets lukewarm support in Tallahassee

MIAMI – The Dolphins dream of upgrading Sun Life Stadium is alive and kicking in South Florida, but it appears to be on life support in Tallahasse.

House speaker Will Weatherford sounds lukewarm at best about the Dolphins deal, and without his backing, it's essentially dead.

A bill that makes the stadium's upgrades possible has moved through several Senate committees, but still hasn't made it to the floor for a vote.

The House version of the bill is in even more trouble, stuck in a key committee.

If it doesn't get out, the May 14th referendum is off.

The Dolphins have hired a team of high-priced Tallahassee lobbyists to ram the bill through the legislature. Auto dealer Norman Braman has hired just one ... to kill it.

Rep. Eddy Gonzalez of Hialeah is sponsoring the Dolphins bill. But he needs Weatherford's support.
