Man hits victim with bat after fender bender, police say

Driver, passenger taken into custody

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Two people were arrested Thursday morning following a car crash in Miami-Dade County.

Miami-Dade police said a car rear-ended a truck in the area of U.S. Highway 1 and 112th Street just after 5 a.m.

Police said both drivers and a passenger in the car that was responsible for the crash got into an argument because the suspect accused the other driver of stopping short.

According to an arrest report, Brian Boyd, 20, pounded on the driver's side window of the victim's car and told him to drive off.

When the victim refused, Boyd jumped into the bed of the truck, smashed out the rear window and crawled into the truck, police said. The victim told officers that Boyd choked him and punched him from behind.

Police said Boyd's passenger, Rovantai Payne, 20, grabbed a baseball bat and began striking the victim's truck before hitting the man with the bat in the chest and stomach area.

Police said the victim was close to losing consciousness when officers arrived and broke up the altercation.

More than $2,000 worth of damage was done to the truck.

Both suspects were arrested. They are facing multiple charges, including burglary to a vehicle with aggravated battery therein, battery of a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.
