Elderly woman pinned under car in Pembroke Pines dies

Good Samaritans lift car, help free Julia Arcienegas

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. ā€“ An elderly woman who was struck by a car Friday morning outside the Flamingo Lakes Golf & Country Club in Pembroke Pines has died.

The crash occurred on Flamingo West Drive near Southwest 10th Street.

Pembroke Pines police said Julia Arcienegas, 81, was crossing the street at the crosswalk when she was struck by a maroon Saturn.

Arcienegas was pinned under the car. Several good Samaritans ran to her aid and lifted the car in order to free her.

She was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital, where she later died.

The driver of the car, Elier Hernandez, 89, remained at the scene. She does not face charges at this time.
