Family asks for help in finding North Lauderdale store clerk's killers

Randolfo Rangel, 59, gunned down during robbery last month

NORTH LAUDERDALE, Fla. ā€“ The family of a North Lauderdale store clerk who was shot and killed while arriving at work last month said Randolfo Rangel, 59, was no gang banger or drug dealer.

His niece told Local 10 News crime specialist John Turchin that Rangel was a smart, hard-working, lovable kind of man who was always helping others.

"(He was a) sweetheart of a guy, wonderful guy. He would do anything for you," Rangel's friend, Ovee Raymondville, said.

Broward Sheriff's Office detectives said Rangel was shot Sept. 25 while arriving to work at the Stop N Go on Bailey Road.

"He (was) very happy (and would) say good morning. I don't understand why they did this to him," customer Shoranda Murphy said.

BSO spokeswoman Gina Carter said Rangel was about to open the store when he was ambushed by armed robbers in the parking lot and shot multiple times. He ran out of the parking lot and collapsed on the grass near the sidewalk.

A witness who was driving by at the time pulled over to help Rangel until paramedics arrived. The witness left before deputies got there. Detectives are asking that good Samaritan to come forward in hopes that they can provide detectives with more details about the shooting.

"The whole idea is to identify the person," Detective Mike Roque said. "Hopefully he'll come forward and assist in the investigation."

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
