Family asks for information in man's murder

Police: Reynaldo Velasquez shot, killed for gold chain

DORAL, Fla. – The children of a 54-year-old man shot and killed for his gold chain asked for information in the case.

Reynaldo Velasquez was doing yard work outside his home at NW 95th Street and 22nd Avenue in October when Miami-Dade Police say two men shot him in the leg and took his gold chain.

"It appears that it was a robbery attempt. They did shoot him and flee and take the chain," said Miami-Dade Police Det. Ida Fina-Milian.

He died after 10 days in the hospital. Velasquez's children and police spoke at Miami-Dade Police Department headquarters in Doral on Wednesday.

"It's been different since there's no father figure in the house no more," said Reynaldo Javier Velasquez, the victim's son. "They should come forward. They should think of what if this was their father, what if they had to go through this."

"I miss him a lot. I used to always ride my bike when he was outside doing something. I can't do that no more," said Jazmin Velasquez, the victim's daughter. "He meant everything to us."

"My dad was hard working. Even if he was sick, he was out there doing labor, doing whatever he could to help the family get better. He taught us everything he knew," said Luis Velasquez.
