Family of tourist killed by hit-and-run driver arrive in South Florida looking for answers

Rollin Francis, 35, was sole provider for his 4 kids in Jamaica, his sister says

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. – The family of a Jamaican tourist who was killed by a hit-and-run driver has arrived to South Florida in hopes of finding the person responsible for his death.

Family members told Local 10 News that Rollin Francis, 35, was so excited to get his visa to visit Florida. They said Francis spent the day at Disney World with his tour group before his life was suddenly cut short.

Francis, who is from Kingston, Jamaica, was killed earlier this month after he was hit by a driver while trying to cross Oakland Park Boulevard.

"To know that his dream was always to be here, and on his second day he was hit and killed -- I don't even know how to explain this," said his sister, Lornette Francis.

According to detectives, the driver who was behind the wheel that night was in a gold or tan older model Cadillac. He stopped briefly after hitting Francis and then took off from the scene.

"If you have a neighbor or relative -- maybe ask some questions, and let our detectives know," said Dani Moschella of the Broward Sheriff's Office.

"The four kids keep crying -- they need their dad," said Lornette Francis.

The victim was the sole provider for his kids, ages 12, 9, 3 and 1, who are back in Jamaica and are looking for answers.

"I would like you to come to the police and let them know, because right now we need to know," said Lornette Francis.

Deputies said if the driver had stayed on scene, he may not have even been cited since Francis did step into traffic.
