Fausto Lopez appealing Miami Police Department firing

Speeding cop was fired one year ago

MIAMI – A former Miami police officer, who was fired for speeding in his police cruiser on multiple occasions, is appealing his firing.

Fausto Lopez was caught on camera doing 120 mph on the Florida Turnpike in October 2011 by an FHP Trooper. That trooper, Jane Watts, pursued Lopez for seven minutes before stopping him with her gun drawn.

Now in video obtained by the Sun Sentinel, Lopez is seen fighting to get his job back in an arbitration hearing. In the video, Lopez denies charges that he was driving recklessly.

Lopez was fired after an investigation showed he had a habit of speeding.
